Ross Girard Taylor

July 20, 1944 — January 28, 2019

Ross was raised in Holladay, Utah, the youngest son of Louis Ervin and Leona Lillian (Scottie) Taylor, with siblings Billy, Marilyn, Jeanne, and Don. From a young age, he worked with his Dad and brother Don on the family farm, in the hayfield, fruit and vegetable garden, taking care of the milk cow and chickens. The apple orchard was the cash crop requiring a lot of work.
He rambled all over Holladay and the Wasatch foothills on foot, bicycle and once or twice riding the family milk cow, swimming in the “hollow” and the pond, sledding down 45th South turning just before going into the canal, shooting rats at the dump, and claimed to be immune to poison ivy. He loved having his birthday in summer as that meant hotdogs cooked over a fire and watermelon.
He attended Holladay Elementary, Olympus Jr. High, graduated from Olympus High School class of 1963, and attended Salt Lake Tech studying autobody repair and small business administration. He joined the U.S. Army reserves in 1965, served as a tank/truck mechanic.
His career spanned 54 years in the sales and service of auto and diesel truck/trailer/tank parts. His territory included most of the western United States and could never go anywhere without running into someone he knew. He could connect the face to a name and where they worked.
Ross became a skilled mechanic and his life-long hobby of tearing apart and rebuilding vehicles began with a 1950 Mercury and ended with a 1984 Bronco II.
He could fix anything. He enjoyed jig-saw puzzles, loved to drink coffee with his pals, grow a garden, go target-shooting, play with his radio-controlled Bronco, camping, fishing, 4-wheeling, and sitting around the campfire telling the same jokes and teasing his family. He was an eclectic collector of vehicles, tools, fishing equipment, Budweiser and Coors steins and guns.
He is survived and will be missed by wife Trudy, kids Teresa (Mike), Scott (Deanna), grandkids Alyssa (Kyle), Alexxa, Justin, Jessica, sister Jeanne, brother Don, sister-in-law Ann Merie, 3 nephews, 1 niece, 9 great-nephews, 1 great-niece, 1 great-great niece, 2 great-great nephews; fur-babies Copper, Bandit, Zoey, Champ, P.A.L. and Scruffy.
