Ross Elmer Lloyd

January 10, 1930 — July 18, 2020

Ross Elmer Lloyd passed away July 18, 2020 at age 90.   Ross was born on January 10, 1930 in Logan, Utah to Elmer Haslam Lloyd and Orilla Kingsford Lloyd.  The oldest of three boys he grew up in Malad Idaho graduating from Malad High in 1948.  After graduation, Ross served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1949-1951 in Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  He loved his mission and always wished he could visit England again someday.
Upon completing his mission, Ross returned home to Provo, Utah and enrolled at Brigham Young University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing.  It was in Provo where he met his wife Alice Ann White and they were married on February 3, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple.  While attending BYU Ross joined the Air Force ROTC program and became a pilot in the United States Air Force.  He served 3 years active service in the military, was stationed in Georgia and Tennessee, and then continued his military serve as Air Force Reserve based out of Hill Air Force Base in Utah.  He was a highly experienced pilot with many hours spent in the seat of the C-124 Globemaster II heavy-lift cargo aircraft.  He continued to serve for an additional 5 years in the Utah Air National Guard reaching the final rank of Major for his combined service.
Ross worked for ZCMI department store for 41 years advancing through several positions within the company.  The longest position he held was working as a Retail Buyer for the Men’s Sportswear, Men’s Furnishings and Levi Strauss & Co departments within ZCMI, covering all Utah and Idaho stores.  Ross loved to travel.  As a retail buyer for ZCMI he was able to visit several countries including Israel, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.  He visited all 50 states and loved to see the world, either by plane or car.  He also loved to go camping with his family in a tent trailer towed by a 1970 Ford Station Wagon.  Many memories were made while on road trips and he rarely needed a map.  Up to his passing he could recite from memory various roads throughout Utah and surrounding states.
Ross loved sports. His favorite teams included the Utah Jazz, along with BYU football and basketball. Watching sports while having his favorite snacks, a Dr. Pepper and Snickers candy bar, was how he spent his pastime. But most of all Ross loved being around his family.  There wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his family, from running errands, helping them move, watching grandkids, to attending sporting events, concerts, and performances for his kids and grandkids.  Ross always had a testimony of the Gospel and showed unconditional love to all.   He was a peacemaker in the family and got along with everyone.
Ross is survived by his wife Alice; his children Lanette Sharp; Mark (Angie) Lloyd; Pamela (Brett) Meadows; Brent (Jennifer) Lloyd; 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.  Preceded in death by his parents, siblings and son Gregory Lloyd.
Thank you to Holladay Healthcare for the love and care they provided to Ross over the past couple of years, as well as the support of all the kind neighbors and friends who have been there in times of need.  Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 5th, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Murray City Cemetery, 5490 S.
