Rosemary Gonzales passed away peacefully on November 5, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was born on February 13, 1931, to Leopold and Mary P. (Sanchez) Gonzales, in Tres Piedras, New Mexico.
Rosemary entered the Benedictine Convent in Atchison, Kansas in 1947 at the age of 16. During her twenty years in the convent, she received her teaching degree and taught elementary school in Kansas, Missouri, and California. Rosemary left the convent and moved to Utah in 1968, where she continued to teach elementary school in the Granite School District (SLC), for over twenty-one years. In Rosemary’s own words – “I taught school for 39 ½ years, and loved every moment working with children.”
Rosemary is survived by siblings Joseph Donald (Patricia) and Dennis (Joyce) Pat Vialpando and Frances (Richard) Coesens; nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents; siblings Leo jr., and Juby; Theresa.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church, in Tooele, Utah, presided by her nephew, Father Ken Vialpando. A viewing will be one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be at the Tooele City Cemetery.
