Rosa Velia Galindo Saez

January 1, 1939 — May 1, 2021

“Rosa”, known to her family and childhood friends as Velia, was born on January 1, 1939, in Colonia Morelos, Sonora, Mexico to Guadalupe Ortiz Rojas & Jose Maria Galindo Ramirez. She passed away peacefully on May 1, 2021, after suffering from heart and kidney failure for many years. She was the 4th child of 11 born to her mother. Velia was industrious from a young age and as soon as she was able, began finding work to earn money. She would tell stories of getting paid a few pesos or nickels to pick up groceries for her mother and neighbors. At first, she used the money to buy candy, which she loved, but when the store owners started giving her candy for free each time she came, she began saving the money in a little bank her mother made from a milk can. She loved to be busy and spent her growing up years making pinatas and paper flowers for various holidays. She also worked cleaning houses and caring for children. She was very athletic and loved to play volleyball. She also loved music and taught herself how to play the piano. After graduating from High School, she studied Cosmetology and began work in a beauty salon. She lived in Mexico, California, and Arizona during the next few years, working at various jobs then leaving them in order to provide support for her mother, who was not well at times. During one of her trips to help her mother, she began working in the fields along with her brother and sister. She would pick oranges, grapes, tomatoes, and cucumbers. She came and went a couple of times, always willing to rush to the aid of her mother and siblings. Working in the fields, she met Roberto Garcia, who she married in October 1971. They had a son who they named after his father. Unfortunately, their marriage didn’t last long and she and her son, Bobby, would go back and forth from California to Mexico to keep him from finding them. They slept & lived in their car for a few years while traveling back and forth. After living this life for a few years, she met and married Felix Saez in 1978 and moved to Midvale, Utah, and then West Jordan. She lived a happy life with Felix for the first few years. Her son remembers them always laughing and joking with each other. It was a very happy time. But sadly, she and Felix separated in 1985 and their divorce was finalized in late 1993.
It was during her marriage to Felix that she was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She immediately felt the truth in the teachings of the church and was baptized in 1980.
She loved the church and its teachings and served in many callings. She especially loved teaching primary and learned how to make cookies so she could take them to her primary kids. In her later years she loved the time she spent working in the temple as a receptionist.
During her 40+ years in Utah she made many life-long friends who influenced her life in positive ways.
She is survived by her son, Robert Saez (Melissa) and three grandchildren, Jacob (Sierra), Matthew and Brendan Saez. She loved her son and grandchildren more than life. Preceded in death by her mother, father, and many siblings.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, May 13th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at the Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, Taylorsville, UT 84123.
