Ronald Makoto Mano

August 28, 1942 — December 6, 2021

Ronald Makoto Mano, 79, was born on August 28, 1942 in Ogden, Utah. He passed away
surrounded by his loving family on December 6, 2021, after suffering a heart attack.
Ron graduated from Bountiful High School and attended the University of Utah before going on
a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northern Far East Mission
where he served in Japan. He remained a faithful and steadfast member of the Church throughout
his life.
Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, friend, and teacher. He
married Cheryl Sei Shimizu on March 22, 1969, in the Los Angeles Temple, and is now reunited
with her. He is survived by his children, Tiffany Hilton (John), Patrice Mano, Tisha Woolf (Neil),
Karisa Sepp (Chris), Rhett Mano (Amy), Darin Mano (Kevin), and Taryn Khong (Christon), 14
grandchildren, siblings Kenneth Mano (Carolyn), Irene Mori (Floyd), Sharon Haraguchi (Wally),
and Richard Mano (Linda), and many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends.
He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and MBA from the University of Utah, and a
Ph.D. in Business/Accounting from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He was a beloved
Professor of Accounting at the University of Utah, Weber State University, and Westminster
College. He authored many articles, was a frequent speaker at professional and academic
conferences and received many professional awards. He was also a part-time accountant for the
National JACL Credit Union, which he continued until his death.
Ron was a good citizen and an example of patriotism. He served honorably in The National
Guard of the U.S. Army. He loved Lee Greenwood’s song “I’m Proud To Be An American,” and
proudly stood whenever veterans were honored.
His favorite pastimes were golfing, traveling with Cheryl, gardening, watching sports, collecting
free accounting swag, paying his grandchildren $5 for pretty much anything they did (including
getting a red card in soccer), and sending Amazon packages to his kids and grandkids. He was an
outstanding person who accomplished much in his lifetime and will be greatly missed by his
family and all who knew him.
Ron would appreciate any donations made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Cheryl Mano’s
name or to the Missionary Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Following the service the interment will be at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery 3115 East 7800 South Cottonwood Heights, Utah 84121.
If attending in person, please wear masks and follow all CDC Covid guidelines.
