Ronald Golden Stewart

April 3, 1948 — October 21, 2016

The light in our hearts is dim today. On Friday, October 21, 2016, Ronald Golden Stewart passed simply into Heaven.  His huge smile, loving heart and passion for living will never be forgotten by those of us he leaves behind.
He entered this world on Saturday, April 3, 1948 to George Golden and Blanche Bjorklund Stewart in Salt Lake City, UT.  He attended Salt Lake City Schools graduating from South High in 1966.  After serving a mission to the British South Mission for the LDS Church, he attended Dixie College and then the University of Utah graduating in 1974 with a degree in Marketing. He was employed in the grocery business and finished 31 years of work with Associated Food Stores in 2005.
His last job was his favorite, working as Track Operations Supervisor at Miller Motorsports Park/Utah Motorsports Campus as Race Control for the past 11 years.  It kept him at the center of everything and where he could provide a lot of influence with his strong knowledge of racing. Ron kept the track safe and fun. He was a leader, who taught and mentored many people who came to work at the racetrack.  Many of his corner workers remember him saying “Carpe Diem” as they went out to work each day. No one knew more about the track than Ron.   These were the best days of his life.
He married Shawna Smith Stewart on Valentine’s Day 1987 after a long courtship.  The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 4, 2000.  They were great pals, friends and sweethearts traveling the world and sharing life.  His heart was her heart.  They were inseparable.
Ron’s life was cars!  At the time of his death he had 15 cars.  He always saw more that he liked and wanted to buy.  He worked in a body shop early in life and was a true artist at painting a car.  His hand was steady and the paint was clean.  His plan was to restore many of them, but sadly cancer took that away.
Ron was a loyal friend.  If you knew Ron, you had a friend for life and he would do anything for you.  His friends from Dixie College remember many hours of fun and singing.  Those memories were some of the best for him.
He loved to play solitaire and kept track of his records on his phone. He loved root beer, hotdogs, baseball and ribs.  More than anything he loved cars and racing!
In the early 80’s he and Shawna went to a car race and it changed their lives.  It was all racing after that and they became volunteer race officials traveling the country to various places for the joy of seeing the races.
He is survived by his wife Shawna, two brothers and one sister, Kent Stewart, Lynette Mebius and Scott Stewart
Thank you Hearts for Hospice, especially Evan, Joey and Rachel for assisting Ron and Shawna with the dying process. It made all the difference.
