Roland  “Sonny”  Raymond Gomez

 1933 ~ 2024

Roland  “Sonny”  Raymond Gomez, 90, passed away on May 8, 2024, in Taylorsville, Utah. Dad was born on October 3, 1933, in Brigham City, Utah to Ramon Romero Gomez and Emma Jean Gomez.

He graduated from Cyprus High School May 24, 1951. After graduation, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. 

Dad married Sherrie Nielson on June 16, 1984. The two of them loved to spend as much time as they could together camping and traveling to wherever they ended up. He loved and missed Sherrie deeply.

I think dad’s greatest joy was his family. He always made sure we were all ok and if we needed anything. It was in his spirit to care for people. Everyone who knew dad thought he was a good man. Especially the children! He loved them and they loved him!

Dad worked as a Brick Mason and Millwright at Kennecott Copper Corp. until his retirement. 

Sonny is survived by his two sons, Russell (Debra) Gomez, Ronald Gomez, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. If you were to ask him, he would tell you that he is a great, great, great grandfather 😊!

He is also survived by his sister, Sherry Harwood.

He is preceded in death by his wife Cheryl  “Sherrie”  Gomez, parents, Ramon and Emma Gomez, sisters, Dolores Aldridge, Carmen Mills, Beatrice Harper, brothers, Ben Gomez, David Gomez, sons, Randy Gomez, Ryan Gomez, and two grandchildren.
