Roland Gene Terry

September 15, 1946 — May 31, 2019

Roland Gene Terry was a beloved father, brother and uncle. He passed away peacefully on the night of May 31, 2019.  Roland loved and served his country with a long and distinguished military career. During his years of service he was awarded many medals of honor including Sharp Shooter, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.  His favorite ship to serve aboard was the USS Orleck to which he has attended numerous reunions for over the years.

Roland married Durethea Griggs in 1970. They had one daughter, who survives him, Crystal Yeisley.  Roland and Durethea later divorced.  He later married Lynda Rice, who passed in 2008.

His great passions included decorating his home for each and every holiday. The ornamentation became an identifying part of his Kaysville neighborhood, one which all the neighbors would enjoy and comment on.  His love of arts also took him to the Central Davis Senior Activity Center in Kaysville for their ceramics classes, where he made many friends who shared his love of arts.

He spent his last years zipping around the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home in his powered wheelchair fully decorated with his flags and skulls. The staff there took great care of him and the family wishes to honor each and every one of them who became like family to Roland.  This includes the other veteran residents who came to know Roland.  His family believes that the joy that everyone at George E. Wahlen bought to Roland needs to be acknowledged and honored.  We all thank you for the time and true care you have given to him.  You provided friendship and family to a man that was deserving of both.

Roland has enjoyed a long and full life and is also survived by his brothers Keith Terry; Don Terry and his wife, Leslie; Bob Terry and his wife Valene; Art Terry and his wife Lorene; and one sister, Lisa Cooper. He is also survived by a myriad of nieces and nephews.  One great-niece to survive him, who was like a granddaughter to Roland, is Zoey Alyn-Parker Stuart.
