Roland Andersen Pierce

Roland Andersen Pierce, wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Murray, Utah on May 4, 2021 at the age of 93. Roland was born on August 1, 1927 in Gunnison, Utah.
He was the oldest of four children born to Ernest Roland and Alvina Andersen Pierce. Roland spent his early years working on the family farm in Flat Canyon, Utah near Gunnison where the whole family learned the value of hard work in order to achieve their dreams. It was here that Roland and his brother Ernie developed an incredible work ethic and an ability to fix and make things last. The boys also developed a friendship at that time that lasted their whole life. Roland and Ernie were not only brothers but also best friends. They were both able to be responsible and respected firefighters.
Roland graduated from Gunnison High School in 1945 then joined the Marines just before his 18th birthday. After the war, in the fall of 1946, Roland left Gunnison and went to Trinidad College in Colorado where he received an associates degree in Gunsmithing in 1949. In 1951 Roland began his career as a firefighter for Salt Lake City Fire Department, a job that he always loved and where he made many lifelong friends. After over 32 years Roland retired as a Senior Battalion Chief in 1983.
In 1952 Roland married his best friend and the love us his life, Charlene Shirley. They were married for 68 years. Roland and Charlene always adored their kids and supported them in every way. They always loved spending time with them especially in nature and the great outdoors. Their favorite places to go include Bear Lake, Flaming Gorge, and deer hunting from the old family farm.
Roland is survived by his wife charlene, sons steve(susan) and scott, his sister Mary Gomoll, 3 nephews, six grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Proceeded in death by his parent’s and 2 brothers.
The family thanks home health and hospice encompass team for taking excellent care of roland.
Memorial services to celebrate Roland’s life will be held at Memorial Mountain View 3115 E 7800 South on Wednesday May 12th. Viewing from 10:00-11:00 with services 11:00-12:00 and interment at Memorial Mountain View.
