Our sweet little mother, Roberta Clara Monahan Riley, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at age 101. She was born on July 16, 1922, along with her twin brother, Rober, in Alamosa Colorado to her parents Daniel Monahan Jr. and Berniece Zuella Allen Monahan.
Roberta married the love of her life, Lemuel Francis Riley, on October 23, 1939. They raised three children, one son and two daughters. They lived in Colorado, then moved to Utah and built their lives here.
After retiring, they enjoyed camping, riding horses, and taking road trips with their trailer. Later they moved to St. George where dad passed away from cancer in 1990.
Mom loved her family and was always happy to see her grandkids. She was very talented. She liked to crochet, made many fancy doilies back in the day, and made many Afghans. Quilting kept her busy. All the kids, grands, and greats received one of her quilts, most of which were hand-quilted. Mom also learned to paint and did many beautiful paintings. And she was a great cook. She enjoyed reading, doing puzzles, and playing cards. Cribbage, Casino, and Rummikub were among her favorites.
Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. She was always doing service to others.
We would like to give special thanks to Heather and Abbie, Amberlee, Jan, and the staff of Laurel Groves for the tender care they gave Mom. Also, we thank Dr. Rasmussen for caring for her through the years.
Roberta is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Rober) Batt of Nephi, Utah, and Debbie (Norman) Christensen of Paulden, Arizona; daughter-in-law Loreli Riley of South Jordan, Utah; thirteen grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and twenty great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Roy, Rober, and Richard, her husband Francis, her son Bill, grandson Mark Riley, and daughter-in-law Ila Rae Riley.
