Roberta “Boe” Thurman Dempsey

August 26, 1938 — October 9, 2018

Sandy, Utah—Roberta “Boe” Thurman Dempsey, dearly loved sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018, in Sandy, Utah.
Born August 26, 1938, in Washington, D. C. to William T. Thurman and Zettella Wheeler Thurman.  Married James Bill Dempsey on May 6, 1960, in the Salt Lake Temple.  Survived by her sisters Heather Fowles, Margo (Barry) Richards, and brother William T. (Sue) Thurman, along with her loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 55 years James Bill Dempsey, and her brother-in-law Don Fowles.
Boe lived her early life in Arlington, VA.  When the family moved to Utah, in 1949, she attended local schools graduating from Olympus High School in 1956, and attended the University of Utah.  She was employed as a secretary and worked for different companies during her life.  Boe retired after nearly 17 years from the FAA where she was selected employee of the month in 1999.  She followed her father’s lead, and as a young adult became active in the Utah Democratic Party.  After her retirement she served on her local community counsel.  She had an incredible memory, was organized, kept an immaculate house and knew how to “get the job done” .  She was a beautiful woman who always kept up her appearance even to her last breath.
As a young person she played in a softball league.  After her marriage she joined a bowling league and attended national competitions. She played the piano and was a member of an outstanding women’s trio.  Her hobbies included painting, crafts, and bridge.  Boe LOVED her bridge group and wanted one more game with the girls!  She was well read, kept up with all the latest news, and was knowledgeable on almost every subject.  She had a great wit and enjoyed life to the fullest.  At times she knew how to “push the envelope.”  She loved her friends and neighbors.  Most of all she loved being with her Bill.  She enjoyed learning how to fish and appreciate the outdoors with him.  Their trips to US Marine Corp reunions and traveling to the Northwest were loved adventures.  Together they quietly served many people in different ways. Roberta had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ all her life.
