Robert Starr Waite

November 11, 1930 — May 17, 2017

Robert Starr Waite passed away comfortably on May 8, 2017 under the loving care of Brookdale Nursing Home and Brighton Hospice. Bob was born November 11, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Mary Starr and Elbert Waite.
Bob received his Bachelor of Science and Secondary Teaching Certificate at the University of Utah in 1954. He then went on to earn his Master of Science in Geography and a minor in Conservation of Natural Resources in 1961. He finished his PhD in Geography at UCLA in 1974.
Bob dedicated his life to teaching. He began his professional career at the University of Utah. He then taught at the University of California, University of Colorado, Weber State, Brigham Young University, Westminster and LDS Business College. He finished his career at his beloved University of Utah. Bob also spent several years working with the government. He helped found the Utah Geography Society at the University of Utah. Two of his greatest projects were with the Great Basin National Park and the Dinosaur National Monument.
A viewing will be held at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South on Friday, May 19, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. A celebration of life will follow at Brookdale at 76 South 500 East from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM.  Interment will be in the Springville City Cemetery at a later date. Special thanks to Miriam Beattie, APRN for her loving care for Bob for many years.
