Robert Siddoway

November 15, 1925 — October 21, 2018

Robert (Sid, Bob) Siddoway, born November 15, 1925 joined his loving bride Bobbie, Sunday October 21, 2018. He was loved by so many and always had a big smile for all who crossed his path.
Robert started working at the Bingham Mine when he was a junior in high school, but really, he wanted to join the military. Although his birthday was at the beginning of the school year, he was still 17 as a senior. So he talked to his mom to see if she would sign and give him permission to join before he turned 18. After a few months of careful thought she reluctantly signed and gave her permission for him to join.
During his years working at the mine, he noticed a beautiful red haired girl named Bobbie (Barbara.) She was the sweetest girl he had ever met and he fell in love instantly. After a proposal and a promise to that “red haired beauty”, he went off to military boot camp. Sid served in the war as a diesel mechanic and created so many great stories that he later loved to share, some of them, very intimate to him. He made it back from war to find his “red haired beauty” was still waiting for him. This came as a surprise to Sid as he knew what a beauty and a “catch” she really was. They married on June 11, 1946 and had 6 beautiful children, 2 daughters and 4 sons. Not only was he known as dad by his own children, but was also called dad by many of his children’s friends.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier with routes in the downtown area as well as the state capitol. After Sid retired from the U.S. Postal Service he started a small lawn mowing business. That small business quickly grew to a big business and he enjoyed every minute of it. He loved working on his lawn mowers and making good friends while making their yards’ beautiful.
Sid enjoyed 30 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandkid  on the way. He was known by one of his favorite names “Grandpa the Great” by Gary and Valya’s grandchildren.  He loved all of them and loved every time they would come to visit him.
Sid had a beautiful voice and loved to sing for all. He would sing at funerals, weddings and during church meetings with the choir. When people would tell him that he should try out for the choir on Temple Square, his modest answer would be that “he wasn’t good enough for them. They had better talent than what he had,” even though he would sing a lot of a cappella numbers.
In high school Sid was both a left and right outfielder and played on two state high school championship teams. He loved to watch baseball whether it was his boys playing or a game on the television. Sid was the type of man who was not judgmental of anyone, and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Sid lived a rich, full life with family and good friends always by his side and will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank his many friends in the Highland View Ward that visited him often. And to the young men who brought him the sacrament on Sundays and stayed to visit and hear dad’s stories. Also a warm thanks to Summit Home Health and Hospice, namely Ivan who dad called “his friend” for taking care of him with such love and compassion.
We will miss you dad but celebrate your reunion with mom, Paula, Rob and Ty!
The family will celebrate his life at a private gathering.
