Robert (Bob) Arthur Peters, 83, our beloved husband, dad, uncle, grandpa and friend passed away September 5, 2013 from bone cancer. Throughout his life, he set a wonderful example of hard work, integrity, and service to others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dad was born to Elmer and Daisy Peters in Mitchell, South Dakota. He spent his childhood working on the family farm with a younger brother and sister where they were taught the value and necessity of hard work. While in Mitchell, Dad opened up his own retail TV, Radio and Repair shop, selling an entire population of people their first television. He also learned to fly airplanes. Among the many things he provided to his family, his philosophy that anything can be achieved with hard work will endure the longest.
In 1949, he married Beverly Kruetzfeldt. Into this family came four wonderful children and a move to Salt Lake City before Beverly died of cancer at the age of 33. Dad struck gold twice, marrying Barbara Heyman in 1964. They had four more wonderful children, raising a total of eight kids while sharing nearly 50 years of memories together.
Among his many past-times, Dad most enjoyed his home away from home, a cabin he and his family built in the mountains, where generations of family and friends have spent time enjoying one another through BBQ’s, picnics, walks, hikes, ATV and snowmobile rides and work parties. Of course, Dad usually had most of the work done before people arrived for the work parties to provide his family more time to enjoy one another.
Dad was very talented at building and fixing most anything which led to a lifelong hobby of wheeling and dealing for things broken and forgotten, spending time repairing stuff in his famous garage, then turning it into money or, more often, a way to help someone in need. He could find value in anything – especially people.
Dad will also be remembered for his fun stories, which seemed to get better over the years. He related them at every opportunity. The many experiences he shared both educated and entertained all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife. He is survived by his current wife Barbara and his two siblings, Leroy (Jan) and Sonya (Gale); eight children, Suzanne (Steve), David (Myrella), Greg (Lisa), Steve (Colleen), Bill (Lareen), Becky (Ron), Jim (Michelle) and Jason (Carolyn) and 11 grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Redwood Memorial, 6500 South Redwood Road. Friends and family may visit beforehand between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. The family would like to thank the many friends, neighbors and hospice personnel for all their love and support.
