Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend returned to his Heavenly Father on May 10, 2014. Born January 6, 1924 in Axtell, UT to Carl Erastus and Jane Ann Metcalf Nielsen. Married Claudette Reynolds March 6, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Robert was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many church callings, his favorite being a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple. He worked for the Salt Lake County Public Works for many years and was a jack of all trades. Robert was a member of the Ute Rangers and the Sons of the Pioneers/Utah Chapter.
Survived by his wife of 61 years, Claudette; children, Julianne (Ryan), Robert (Moana), Barbara (Curtis), Launi Kay, Paula (Larry), April (Randy) and Claudette Lynn; 17 grandchildren and 14 ½ great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, one sister and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, 11:00 am, May 16, 2014 at the Union Fort 7th Ward, 6770 South 500 East, Midvale, UT. Viewings will be held on Thursday from 6-8:00 pm at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road and also one hour prior at the church. Interment to follow at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
