Robert Morgan

October 18, 1924 — August 30, 2015

Robert Lewis Morgan, 90, passed away on Sunday morning, August 30, 2015 in his own bed in the home he built in Holladay and where our parents had their wedding reception in 1952!
He was born on October 18, 1924 in Salt Lake City to Axel Leander Holm and LaVerda Mae Lewis. He spent his early years in Park City, Utah where his grandmother owned an old candy store, Marie’s Place, at the top of Main Street.
His mother married Scott McGregor Morgan in 1929 and he took the Morgan name. They were a hardworking family. They lived in Brighton for three summers during the depression when they would rent out and maintain the summer rental cabins. He painted, cleaned, hauled wood, gathered garbage, managed the rental horses, and had the Brighton paper route. He was 10 years old that first summer. He often said those were some of his best memories.
He married May Whitby on July 5, 1952. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until her death in 2010. He was an incredible caregiver for her.
He was a machinist by trade, started his own tool and die company – Morgan Steel Rule Die Co. He could build, fix or invent anything that was necessary. He always had several projects he was working on and he was always busy. He was the plant manager at Electro Controls before his retirement. He served as a foreman of a Grand Jury, a member of the Snake Creek Water Association, and had the Morgan-Spencer Reservoir in Midway named after him.
He loved his family, meeting friends at the Italian Village on Friday nights or taking a group to the cabin for a good steak, playing five card stud, Brittney Spaniels, barbershop quartets, the player piano, any athletic event his grandkids were involved with, a round of golf at Wasatch Mountain, working with his hands and Ancient Age bourbon.
In 1970 he built our family cabin in Midway. Both of their homes were filled with friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, children, grandchildren, Scouts, Halo partiers and golfers. There was always lots of laughter, food and music.
Bob and May are the parents of three children, Pat Bates (Lee, deceased), Kellie (Greg Davis), Ken (Kim), as well as five grandchildren, Chris, Josh (Dawn), Zak (Amy) Davis, Steve and Lexie Morgan. He lived long enough to enjoy four great-grandchildren, Dutch, Dane, Xander and Anker. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife May, and his brother Doug. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn (Joe) Bringhurst and many nieces, nephews and life-long friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 4th at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary 3115 E 7800 So. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to services. To send condolences to the family visit www.mountainviewmortuary.com
