Robert W. Medley (Bob) known affectionately as Grumpy to his Granddaughter Gina, passed away at his home Saturday, February 8, 2015. He was born June 3, 1926 to Clara Engle and Morgan L. Medley, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Ruth Johnson April 26, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death.
Although he didn’t finish high school, he was a successful Man. He joined the US Navy at 17 years of age and served as a cook until he left many years later to take care of his aging parents. He served proudly in two wars, World War II and Korea. Returning home, he drove trucks for Linde Oxygen and for Salt Lake County. He was also the owner of the Pin and Tumbler Key Shop. He served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was known as Mr. Sunday School for many years. His last calling was a greeter; no one came to church without a smile and a handshake.
He leaves behind his children, Michele Jaco (Don), Melody Lema, Louis (Mattie), Lynnette, Linda (Steve), David (Sarah) and Debbie Eckternkamp; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, son Robert, sister LaRue and brothers Woody, Clifford and Louis.
His smile, jokes and unfailing support and love will be missed by all who knew him.
There will be a viewing Friday 6-8 pm at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 E 7800 S. Services will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at the Butler Ward, 2700 E 7000 S at 1:00 pm, with a viewing from 12-12:45. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Estates.
