Robert Mack Dunlop

September 4, 1947 — March 1, 2017

On March 1st Robert Dunlop passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Midvale.  He will be deeply missed by his son, Gerald, his siblings Rich and Marge, and his close circle of friends.  Bob will be welcomed into heaven by his wife of almost 50 years, Diane Walton Dunlop, and his parents Gerald Bert and Faye Dunlop.  He was born September 4th 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  He graduated from South High School in 1965, and married the love of his life 4 years later.  He served his country in the Air National Guard, and was proud of his service and his honorable discharge.  Bob worked for Salt Lake Printing Center creating printed materials for the LDS Church for 35 years, and was a valued asset to their team and their mission.  Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and he was an avid golfer and bowler, at one time serving as the president of the Salt Lake City Bowling Association.  Bob also loved following NASCAR racing, and was always up to date on Dale Jr’s finishes.  Bob had an ongoing love affair with American muscle cars, and had a particular fondness for Pontiacs.  However, Bob was most devoted to being a father to his son Gerald.  While Bob was generally soft-spoken, he was an amazing role model and taught Gerry to be the patient and caring man he is today.  Bob will always be remembered as a gentle father and friend who was always willing to help those around him.  Memorial services will be held at Redwood Cemetery on Saturday March 11th.  The viewing will begin at 11:00, with a graveside service to follow at 1:00.
