Robert Leon Nelson

March 2, 1942 — January 1, 2017

On New Years’ Day, Robert Leon Nelson’s gentle heart gave out.
A great light in the lives of many flickered out after a valiant struggle through many illnesses, pain and suffering. He successfully fulfilled his earthly mission with honor, righteousness and integrity.
He is much loved and adored and will be greatly missed by those who survive him.
Leon is survived by his devoted companion of 52 years, Carole; son Jon; daughters Robyn, Cami, Missy, Julie and 11 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother James, and grandson Aiden. He felt his two greatest accomplishments were his marriage and his family.
Leon was born March 2, 1942, in Arizona, and grew up with three brothers and two sisters. His health problems started early but throughout life he maintained a positive outlook and his spirit remained steadfast in faithfulness to the Lord.
His life was an example of selfless service, not only to family, but to those with whom he came in contact. He served his mission in Chile, and held many callings in the LDS church including; Bishop and Stake Patriarch. Service was always a priority and he loved those whom he served. One of his trademarks has always been a keen sense of humor and wit, which he maintained until his last days. He was truly a remarkable man with a heart of gold, and the outpouring of love demonstrates how many considered him a friend.
