Robert Curtis Larson

March 4, 1937 — June 20, 2019

Robert Curtis Larson, “Bob”, 82, passed away on June 20, 2019, from complications of diabetes. Bob was born March 4, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Onslow Peter Larson and Kathryn Tanner Larson. The family moved to southern California where he attended schools in Pasadena, Rosemead and Alhambra. In 1948 he moved to Las Vegas and in 1956 graduated from Las Vegas High School. During his school years, Bob was involved in Boy Scouts, ROTC & Rifle Team, Art Guild, Thespian Club, and stage lighting and sound for school and community productions.
Bob attended BYU, where he met his sweetheart, Mina. He also attended the U of U and Utah Trade Technical Institute (SLCC) where he received a Certificate in Drafting. Bob spent his life working in sales and service of architectural/engineering supplies and the printing industries, at times owning his own companies.
Bob served as a missionary in the Great Lakes Mission from 1957-1959. Mina devotedly waited for him while he served and following his return, they were married on April 15, 1960 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their 59 years of marriage was full of love and support for one another in all aspects of life and church service. They served a Stake Mission together in Las Vegas soon after they were married. Later in life Bob served as a Church Employment Service missionary, and they served together again as senior missionaries in the Utah Salt Lake City East Mission from 2013-2015. He loved serving the Lord and teaching the Gospel. He held many callings during his life including quorum leadership positions, Home Teacher, Sunday School instructor, many ward clerk positions, stake financial clerk, Executive Secretary for several bishops, and Activities Committee Co-chairman.
Bob and Mina enjoyed raising Terri and Kristi in Las Vegas and in 1975, they moved to Salt Lake City where Sue made our family complete. He was a wonderful, patient father who rarely raised his voice. He loved his family and valued time with them.
Dad was funny and a big tease. He was always willing to help with homework, enjoyed playing ball, all sorts of games on our road trips, staying up to watch movies and sneaking a half-gallon of ice cream with us. He entertained children with his Donald Duck voice and loved playing games as a family – Monopoly and The Game of Life being the traditional New Year’s Eve challenges, which he rarely lost. He had an inherited stubborn streak which he graciously passed to his daughters. He was a great supporter of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether it be recitals, sports, dance or cheer, he was sure to be at their events.
Bob was a talented artist, handyman, and could fix most everything from clocks to cars. He liked camping, fishing (sleeping with a pole propped up and the line in the water), football, basketball, wrestling, and golf, and was an avid BYU fan. And he sure loved a good lemon meringue pie, especially our mom’s!
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Kathryn, and stepmother, Linda; granddaughter, Ambree Moore; sisters-in-law, Doris and Jeannine.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mina; daughters, Terri (Keith) Gatherum, Kristi (Rick) Moore and Sue (Dan) Shimoda; 16 grandchildren and 11+ great-grandchildren; brothers, Peter Larson, J. Eric (MarKaye) Larson, Gary (Sheila) Larson, and Eric P. (Shannon) Larson; sister, Lori (Brian) Gates.
We, as a family, express our deepest heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dave Seegmiller for his continual earnest efforts in Bob’s behalf, to Dr. Jeff Barklow and the IMC Dialysis Services for the countless hours they spent caring for him, and to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Intermountain Medical Center, for the loving care they gave Bob while he was there.
