Robert (Bob) Stanley Johnson, age 90, returned home on Friday, May 11, 2018.
Bob was born on March 13, 1928 in Elsinore, Utah to John Stanley and Verna (Clarkson) Johnson. He spent most of his early years in Richfield and loved to roam the hills and mountains of Sevier County. He never lost the love for that area and he returned often for camping trips or just for a day drive.
Bob enlisted in the United States Navy just before his 18th birthday and spent the next two years in Hawaii. He loved to reminisce about his time there which included the disbursement area for the payroll department, working in the warehouse, and he also flew at night with the Night Fighters Squadron looking for any Japanese in the area.
When he was discharged from the Navy he attended the University of Utah and received a Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Art. All of the paintings in his home were painted by him.
Bob was working for Carpenter Paper when he met his soon to be spouse, Margaret. Bob was the shy type, but Margaret found a way to get them introduced and they started courting. They were married on July 3, 1953 in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Margaret preceded him in death on April 26, 2016.
He is survived by three sons, Dave (Patty) Johnson, Rob (Susan) Johnson, Richard (Becki) Johnson; two daughters, Cheryl (Dayle) Matson, Diana (Howard) Fuchs; one sister, Marilyn (Howard) Olpin; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ellen Johnson, Viola (Farrell) Christensen, and Rosalie (James) Bown.
