Robert (Bob) Dewey

April 22, 1934 — December 14, 2018

Robert (Bob) Tempest Dewey, age 84, passed away in Bountiful on December 14, 2018 of natural causes.  He was born on April 22, 1934 to Robert Charles Dewey and Duella Bradshaw Dewey in Salt Lake City. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Atlantic Central States mission. After his mission he married Ida lue Gardner in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Bob graduated from the University of Utah with an architecture degree. For a time he had his own practice in Bountiful. In 1970 he accepted an architectural position with the church and moved his family to Germany for three years. During his three year term in Germany, he took the family on many trips as far north as Finland and as far south as Italy.
After returning to Bountiful, he continued his architectural practice. The highlight of his career was working again for the church in the Temples and Special Projects Department. He was involved with the conceptual designs for 17 Temples. His final project was the Nauvoo Temple.
Bob served as Bishop twice and as a member of the Bountiful Mueller Park Stake Presidency. Bob and Ida Lue served missions in Freiberg, Germany, and Lagos, Nigeria. He served as a sealer in the Freiberg and Bountiful Temples. He performed weddings for many of his grandchildren.
Bob pursued many interests including hunting, construction, camping, sail boating, fishing, golfing, flying and music.
His favorite golfing outings were with his grandkids. His children have vague yet fond memories of camping near Red Creek reservoir in the big spring bar tent. During fishing trips with the children he spent more time tying their hooks than fishing himself.
Bob’s quest for adventure took him to the skies. With his private pilot’s license Bob took the children on fun fishing trips.
He dabbled with many musical instruments including guitar, saxophone, ukulele, harmonica, and Jew’s harp. He had a beautiful crooner voice and sang many solos in church and at parties with Ida lue at the piano. The family band must have been his most fun and rewarding musical experience.
Bob was preceded in death by his his parents. Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, his four children Bob (DeAnne), Paul (Tracy), Ann Hewlett (Spencer) and Susan Chadwick (Kent), brothers Richard, George (Nancy) and sister Darla Rock (Brett), 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren with four more on the way.
