Rick Lamar Mcdermaid

Rick Lamar McDermaid “Slicky” passed away Monday, February 28, 2022.  He was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, and best friend. Rick died peacefully on what was his 72nd birthday.
Rick was born in Salt Lake City on February 28, 1950, to William Lamar and Raelene McDermaid.  Rick and his siblings were well known to the Granger area. Rick graduated from Granger High School. He married Sally Soria on February 21, 1971. They were the proud parents of two sons Brett Paul and Lance Lamar. They created a wonderful life together. Unfortunately, Sally was taken from them too soon.  Rick later married Dolores Campos on October 15, 2010. She cared for him until his final days, and we are forever grateful.
If you knew Rick, then you for sure have a story to tell about “Slick Ricky.” It will be a story like no other and one that will make you continuously smile and laugh. Rick was a kind, loving and compassionate man. He always sent us the most heartfelt cards and told us often he loved us. He was so proud of each one of us. His grin and chuckle will never be forgotten. He loved his ’66 Chevelle Super sport, The Utah Utes, teasing his favorite dog Gizmo, eating a whole box of twinkies in the middle of the night and listening to his beloved Beatles. If you were lucky, you even saw Rick perform the Beatle shuffle. Rick was a staple in the Taylorsville baseball community. Baseball created many treasured friendships for Rick over the years. Rick spent his career at Questar Gas. Here he met several lifelong friends. Rick enjoyed pheasant hunting with the “cock crew”, playing Keno, spending weekends fishing in Kamas, golfing at Wasatch and listening to Beatles music with family and friends. Rick adored his siblings. Family parties were spent going down memory lane. The Beatles songs will forever live on in our hearts.
He is survived by his loving wife Dolores; sons, Brett (Brandy), Lance (Juan); sister, Cathy (Steve) Zabriskie; brothers, Paul (Kathy), Bob (Mel); Sister-in-law Vickie McDermaid; Stepchildren Leo (Sherri), Elizabeth (Rachel); granddaughters Kenadie, Colline (Abel), Darian, Libby and London; grandsons Cooper, Kaleb and Gavin; great grandkids Krew and Odin; and many loving nieces, nephews and close family friends. He was preceded in death by his father William L. McDermaid; Mother Raelene F McDermaid; wife Sally Soria; brothers Scott McDermaid and Doug McDermaid. A celebration of life will be held from 3-5pm on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Redwood Memorial Estates located at 6500 South Redwood Road.
I will not be far away, for life goes on. So, if you need me call and I will come. Though you cannot see or touch me, I will still be nearby. If you listen with your heart, you will hear how much I love all of you soft and clear.
Be prepared to write down your favorite memory of Rick. In lieu of flowers an account has been set up at America First Credit Union to honor Rick’s favorite pastime. All donations will be donated to the Murray High School Baseball program.
