Richard Arlin York, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother went to meet his Heavenly Father on Saturday December 16, 2017.
Richard was born on February 11, 1942 in Estherville, Iowa to Leroy Jesse York and Venetta Mae Lindsey. He was the oldest of nine children. When he was six years old he moved with his family to Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1960. He joined
the United States Navy on August 9, 1961 and served honorably until the end of his enlistment on September 11, 1964.
On January 5, 1973 he married his sweetheart Peggy Ann Andersen of Tooele, Utah in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised their five children in Kearns, Utah.
Richard worked for Utah Transit Authority as a bus driver from May 1979 to August 2005 upon his retirement.
Richard enjoyed numerous hobbies including building scale models of military planes and ocean vessels, model railroading, astronomy, spelunking, being an avid reader, video games, and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the time he spent as a member of the Salt Lake Astronomical Society as well as the Golden Spike Railroad Club. His love of astronomy included him building both a twelve inch and a seventeen inch telescope.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Leroy Jesse York and his mother Ventta Mae Lindsey, brothers Kenneth York, and Marvin York, and sisters Margaret Williams, Darla Hanf, and Melinda York.
Richard is survived by his wife Peggy York of Kearns, Utah. Children Stephanie Cambell (Russell) of Magna, Utah, Jeffery York of Kearns, Utah, Kelly Archer (Shane) of West Valley City, Utah, Jason York (Mika) of Kaysville, Utah, and Jeremy York (Holly) of West Jordan, Utah, sisters LeeAnn Adams, Cheryle Dysart, and Jacqueline Morgan all of Pocatello, Idaho, and grandchildren Christopher Cambell, Ashley Archer, Melissa Cambell, Brendan Archer, Jaidyn York, Brooklyn Cambell, Sydnie Archer, Keagan York, Ethan Cambell, and Adelaide York.
A viewing will be held at Redwood Memorial Estates 6500 South Redwood Road in West Jordan, Utah on December 20, 2017 from 7 pm to 9 pm. A second viewing will be held at the Parkwood Ward 5927 South Parkwood Drive Kearns, Utah on December 21, 2017 from 11 am to 12 pm. Graveside services will be held at Redwood Memorial Estates December 21, 2017 at 2 pm.Service Information
