Richard Mackay

December 15, 1935 — July 27, 2014

Richard Howard Mackay “Dick”
Dick Mackay, a loving man, went peacefully to be with Heavenly Father on July 27, 2014 with his family present, his battle with cancer finally over. Dick was born December 15, 1935 to Howard Tanner Mackay and Ellen Sorenson Mackay. He graduated from Granite High School in 1954, served in the Air National Guard and later married the love of his life, Jean (Wood) on Valentine’s Day 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dick spent 34 years working at Kennecott Copper’s Magna Power Plant as a pipe-fitter. Dick also completed training for the Fire Protection Team. Anyone who knew Dick knew his passion for bowling – 54 years on leagues and many years serving on the Salt Lake Bowling Association, most of those being called out in the middle of the night to certify the lanes for a 300 game. Dick had 35 consecutive years bowling at the ABC National Convention. He was inducted into the Salt Lake City Bowling Association Hall of Fame in June of 2003. This honor came from his dedicated service and participation. After retiring from Kennecott Copper he began working at Junction Lanes, working in the area of his passion. Dick’s love of bowling was shared with life-long friends and family, bringing them together in open bowl, league and tournament play. He continued his love of bowling by competing in Wii Bowling through the Senior Center. Many thanks go to Doyle Atwood as Dick’s Wii partner and for his friendship. The team won their last tournament July 15th.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean; children, Dave (Pam), John, Clark (Mary), Troylyn (Tim) Lindsay, Sid (Peggy); 17 grandchildren,; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson and his brother, Jeff (Laura). Preceded in death by his daughter, Cherylann; parents; and siblings, Kenneth Mackay and LaRae Anderson.
A sincere thank you to Kimmy with Canyon Homecare and Hospice for her loving care of Dick and compassionate love to the family.
