Richard William Hoagland Jr was born on February 3, 1957 in Salt Lake City to Audrey B Likins and Richard William Hoagland. He graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1975. While he was in high school he was an accomplished track star. He was recruited as an Olympic candidate for track. He was fast and that was why he was given the name “Wild Bill Hoagland”…no one could ever keep up.
Bill married his high school sweetheart and the couple welcomed two children into their home. His children remember him as a kind, gentle, patient, and a giving father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. He instilled a very strong work and family ethic for both of his sons.
Bill was accomplished at carpentry and often displayed this through his building trades. He was a perfectionist. He was someone you could always count on. He was a gentle kind man who would give you the shirt off his back. He was a defender of the underdog, the under privileged, anyone who needed a helping hand and was always someone you wanted to be with or around. He was funny, and his sense of humor showed in everything he did. He always had a joke or a smile for everyone he met. He was an individual who loved history, science, religion and the study of how things worked. He was interested in why we did the things we do. He was passionate about the world, archeology the study of man and our origins. He was the most interesting man in the world to speak with.
