Richard Corey Davies

July 17, 1934 — January 25, 2016

Richard C. Davies passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 25, 2016, at the age of 81, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Rich was born on July 17, 1934 in Wagner, SD to Ralph and Hazel Davies. After finishing high school in Wagner, he earned a degree in Pharmacy at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. Rich married Lois Gale and settled in Bridgewater, SD where he owned and operated Davies Drug for 20 years. Rich made lasting friendships and many contributions to the community of Bridgewater. Rich and Lois had five children together; Mike (Sue) Davies from SD, Tim (Sarah) Davies from MN, David Davies from ID, Grant (Carla) Davies from CA and Susan (Rick) Edgington from UT. In 1977, the family moved to Bountiful, UT where Rich worked at Layton Drug and owned and operated a home health agency with his business partner, Lane Call. Rich and Lois later divorced. In 1984, Rich married Gloria Workman; Rich treated Gloria’s children, Mitch (Janell) Palmer and family from IA, and Laura (Chip) Fuller and family from UT, as his own. Rich and Gloria lived in Bountiful, UT for 22 years, establishing lifelong friendships. During their 31 years of marriage, and before Rich’s illness progressed, Rich and Gloria traveled extensively around the world. They spent significant time in the Pacific Northwest, where Rich proposed to Gloria. They enjoyed their trips to Bandon, Oregon very much and loved golfing with their friends. Rich was a gourmet cook with a ready smile and contagious laugh. He was a generous and loving husband, father and loyal friend. Rich has 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, in addition to some very special people in his life including Chye (Filona) Koh and their son Corey from Singapore, Alexander (Suzanne) Zahn and family from Germany, Teresa and Randy Oster from UT and Susan Shannon Davies from ID. He is preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Ronnie, and granddaughter Allison.
