Richard Allen Gates

Richard Allen Gates passed away on November 23, 2019 in Salt Lake City at the age of 82.
Richard was born on February 5, 1937 in California to Loris “Bud” Hanan Gates and Melba Irene Crew Gates. He married Patricia Ann Bradford on November 5, 1964. Richard served in the Army in his youth. He was an Army sharpshooter and received the Good Conduct Medal. He loved to trail ride on his ATV, go to all of the grandkids’ sports events and dance recitals, and attend their graduations and accomplishments. Richard was a huge University of Utah fan. He spent many years coaching youth sports and influencing many. Richard served an LDS Spanish Ward mission with his wife, and also served in many capacities in his Church, including as a High Councilor. He always said his greatest accomplishment was his family.
Richard is survived by his children: Dawna Saylor (Dave), Lori Springer (Mark), Lisa Lee (Dereke), Bradford Gates (Tomomi), Lindy Isaacson (Trent), Barry Gates (Angie), and Lesley Poulson (Jaron); twenty-four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia Gates, his parents Loris Gates and Melba Crew, and his grandson Jackson Saylor.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the Mountain Point 6th Ward, 498 East Hollow Creek Road, Draper, Utah 84020 and again on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM at the same location. Interment will take place at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123.
