Rex “Dale” Farrer, 87, passed away June 11, 2017 following a birthday celebration with his friends, neighbors and relatives. He was born June 11, 1930 to Royal and Hazel Farrer in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dale was a classy, articulate, intellectual, passionate individual. His classic style reflected his personality as he would often wear fine suits, coats, hats, and lovely sweaters. Dale was an accomplished pianist with a special passion for Chopin. His classical music collection was impressive including records, tapes, and CDs. Dale enjoyed travelling and photographing his adventures. Dale was an avid reader with an impressive personal library which included many of the Great Books and classic literature. His constant companions throughout his life were his beloved cats. Sammy his latest cat has been with him for 17 years. One of his greatest joys in life was visiting with his relatives at special occasions and parties.
Dale grew up in Provo Utah and graduated from Provo High. His father passed away when Dale was only 21 years old. He then lovingly took care of his mother for the rest of her life. He received a BA degree from Brigham Young University in German with a minor in music in 1952. He later received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah, 1959. He served in the Air Force in the Korean War. He was employed by several companies as a Senior Electrical Engineer. He also spent time as a realtor. One of his career accomplishments was writing manuals for the US space program.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dale, served as ward organist and a valiant hometeacher and loved taking family names to the temple.
Dale and the family offer their deep appreciation to his caregiver Rey Wingist, his neighbor Jill Anderle, and Jeanne Thelin his cousin, for the fine loving way they cared for him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11 am in the Wasatch Hills Ward 2255 S. Wasatch Dr. Salt Lake City, Utah with a viewing from 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to the service. Interment: Provo City Cemetery, Provo, Utah following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Utah Symphony or the Humane Society.
