Reva Devora Parkinson Gates Swasey

In loving memory of our dear mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Reva Devora Parkinson Gates Swasey, age 82, of West Valley City, Utah. Reva passed away peacefully on November 3, 2019, in Kearns, Utah. She was born on December 21, 1936, to Verda and Delmar Parkinson in Beaver, Utah. The third of ten children, she was raised in Beaver and graduated 3rd in her class at Beaver High School.
Reva married Dale Kenneth Gates on September 20, 1957 and was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were happily together for 38 years and raised four children before an illness took her husband, leaving her a widow. Years later, she would find joy and courtship again through her marriage to Richard Swasey on October 1, 2004. They were together eight years until Richard’s passing in January 2013.
Reva began her employment at S&H Cress in Salt Lake City. Later, she would find a fulfilling career at Newspaper Agency Corporation where she worked for 28 years.
Reva spent most of her life in the West Valley City area but later moved to South Jordan, and eventually Kearns.
Reva enjoyed cross-stich, crochet, collecting figurines, and spending time with her family. She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She enjoyed all of her callings but her favorite was serving in the Jordan River Temple.
Her greatest joy and achievement was being a beloved wife and mother to her four boys.
Reva is survived by her sons Kenneth Gates (Franceen), Gordon Gates (Tera), Kendale Gates (Mindi), Kirk Gates (Liz); brother Gerald Parkinson; sisters Trena Walker and Mary Koziba; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her parents Verda and Delmar Parkinson; spouses Dale Gates and Richard Swasey; siblings Revola Branch, Varnel Parkinson, Ardella Ady, Eugene Parkinson, Sharon LeFevre, and Keith Parkinson.
An evening viewing will be held Friday, November 8, 2019, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the Meadow Heights Ward, 4310 South 3200 West, West Valley City, UT, 84118. A funeral service will follow Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 11:30 AM with a viewing prior at 10:00 AM also at the Meadow Heights Ward. Interment is to follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, 84123.
