Regina T. Chavez

June 15, 1929 — March 26, 2017

Regina T. Chavez, an elect lady in a tiny package, joined her soul mate and eternal companion, Jose Angel on March 26, 2017.
Regina was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 15, 1929 to Rafael and Dolores Torres. She was one of two daughters and four brothers. She grew up in SLC and graduated from South High School.
Regina first met her sweetheart in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico while serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After Regina returned home from her mission, Jose Angel served in the same mission. They were married December 28, 1954 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Regina and Jose were blessed with 5 sons: Rafael, Daniel, Miguel, Jody and Pancho who kept her busy her entire life from changing diapers to attending sporting events and going on camping trips. Regina loved her family and would do anything for them. She loved music and playing the piano and was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening.
Regina loved the Gospel and served two missions-both to Mexico; the second one with her eternal companion Jose. She was active in Relief Society and loved doing Genealogy. She was proud of her Mexican heritage and the traditions and culture she was born into.
Regina worked in her father’s restaurant El Farol for many years until she and Jose decided to open their own – Rafael’s Mexican Restaurant. She loved working and taught her sons how to cook and clean and manage a successful restaurant.
Regina’s life was all about serving her family and fellow man. She enjoyed fixing meals for visiting family – she was a true disciple of Christ.
Regina is survived by her brothers: Carlos, Elias, and sister: Ruth; her children: Rafael (Collette), Daniel (Leda), Miguel (Stephanie), Jose (Bobbie), Pancho (Jill). She leaves 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, daughter in-law, great grandson, many in-laws and cousins.
