Reed Nessen

December 24, 1926 — July 15, 2014

Reed Price Neesen died July 15, 2014 from a brief battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born December 24, 1926 in Centerville Utah to Alvin Nephi Nessen and Zina Maud Price Nessen. He married Hope Florence Fairbanks on Sept. 16, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He attended Davis High School. He joined the Merchant Marines at age 17. He served in the US Army in Germany during the Korean War. He served an LDS mission to the Hawaiian Islands. He attended the University of Utah and received his Master’s Degree in Industrial Design. He was then stationed with the US Army at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Baltimore, MD.
Reed was the owner of Reed’s Mobile Homes and Finance for many years in West Valley City. He also designed and built West Crest Mobile Home Park, and Western Mobile Estates which he also owned.
He was listed in “Who’s Who” for his achievements in business and finance. Reed was an avid ATV rider, a dedicated gardener, and collected model trains. He enjoyed travel and saw much of the world.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a firm testimony of the gospel, and held positions in bishoprics, and as a ward clerk, etc.
He and his wife Hope lived in the Cottonwood area for many years and raised their children there. They moved to the Sugar House area where they have resided ever since.
Reed is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years Hope Fairbanks Nessen; children: Steven Nessen (Naomi), Angela Smith (Scott), Lamar Nessen (Cecelia), and Pamela Tonelli Smith (Hiram); Grandchildren: Wesley Smith, Ian Nessen, Ariel Nessen, Kristen Tonelli Dyer, Jessica Smith, Kameron Tonelli, Ethan Smith, Mikel Smith, and Charles Smith. Siblings: Robert Nessen, and Jean McKean, Brother-in-law Jerry Hyde, sister-in-law Dorris (Ken), and former sister-in-law Carol Nessen (Russ) plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Joseph Wendell Nessen, Kenneth Alvin Nessen, Russell Don Nessen, and sister Lola Nessen Hyde; Step-mother Stella Cleverly Nessen; brother-in-law David S. McKean (Jean), and sisters in-law Lorraine Dawson (Wendell), Barbara Nessen (Ken), and Bess E. Nessen (Bob).
Funeral Services will be held on Monday July 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Memorial Estates Mortuary 3115 E. 7800 S. (Bengal Blvd.) with a viewing an hour before. A viewing will be held on Sunday July 20, 2014 at the Granite Tabernacle building 2200 S. 900 E. SLC, UT from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Interment: Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery
