Reed Gordon

February 7, 1929 — April 17, 2014

Reed passed on to enter his final tournament April 17, 2014. He was born Feb. 7, 1929, to Reed C. Gordon and Elizabeth Griffiths Gordon in Tooele, Utah. The family later moved to Salt Lake where Reed graduated from West High School. He married Ruth Renee Rokes and together they had four sons – Greg, Jeff, Brad and Drew. Each son often expressed how fortunate they were to have experienced a wonderful upbringing and a dad who supported them in every way.
Reed had a career with Questar Corp. that spanned a period of over 40 years with a 5 year hiatus as manager of the Canyon Racquet Club. He loved and participated in many sports, but tennis was his forte. He became a serious competitor and played in many tournaments in Utah and the Western States. He competed, coached, taught and mentored potential players throughout his life—especially his sons, three of whom had university tennis scholarships.
Reed met and married Barbara Buehner Bradshaw in Feb. 1989, and continued in his role as a well loved and caring father for Barbara’s children. Reed is survived by his wife, Barbara, his two sons, Jeff (Debbie), Drew (Robanne), and daughter-in-law, Kris, Barbara’s six children; Doug (Gigi), Julie (Tom), Jan (Dale), John (Jan), Mary, and Rick (Ale), along with 34 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Reed was preceded in death by his sons, Greg and Brad and one grandchild, Alex.
The family extends thanks to the staff of Haven Hospice for the care given Reed.
