Rebecca “Becky” Francis Hicks passed away Tuesday morning December 10, 2024. Becky was born February 4th, 1950, the first of four children to Edward and Elaine Kucera in American Falls, Idaho. Becky attended school and graduated from American Falls High School in 1968. She then left home to attend Stevens-Henagar College in Salt Lake City. Becky married Steve Hicks in 1973 and settled in Sandy, Utah where they raised their two children, Brandon and Regrin. She loved her family and was blessed with three grandchildren whom she adored. She loved to spend time planting flowers and feeding the birds in their beautiful backyard. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was known to dominate a hand of cards once in a while.
Becky built a career as a professional secretary leading to an executive secretarial position for one of the largest builders and owners of commercial and residential properties in Utah. Eventually, she became the building manager for two commercial properties in Salt Lake City until she retired. In 2020, Steve and Becky made Summit Vista their new home, meeting and getting involved with many new friends.
Becky was a devout Catholic and truly believed in serving others. As a long-time parishioner of Blessed Sacrament, Becky served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at Masses, as well as bringing Communion to the homebound, and driving elderly women friends to Mass and church events. Never one to say “No”, Becky served as President of the Pastoral Council, Co-Chair of the parish Fall Festival, member of the Parish Finance Committee, served multiple terms as President and Treasurer of the Council of Catholic Women, chaired the Holiday Blessings Boutique fundraiser, Editor of CCW newsletter, The Shareline, served on or chaired most of the CCW committees and was currently the Sunshine Committee Chair. When the National Council of Catholic Women held their annual Convention in SLC, Becky held the immense position of Volunteer Coordinator. She was on the Board of Directors of the Diocese of Salt Lake City Council of Catholic Women, serving four years as Treasurer and five years as Co-Director of Meetings for the annual convention. Becky was president of the Wasatch Deanery Council of Catholic Women and held many deanery officer and commission chair positions. Becky freely gave of her time and talents and was a role model, who always let her light shine.
Becky was preceded in death by her father, Edward Kucera, her sister, Rosemary Guess, and her brother Randy Kucera. She is survived by her mother, Elaine Kucera, her loving husband Steve Hicks, children, Brandon (Brittiney) Hicks, Regrin (Roger) Bocksnick, grandchildren Tony Black, Tristyn Hicks, Amelia Bocksnick, sister Roberta (Greg) Baker, nieces & nephews, Joseph (Bridgette) Baker, Katy Baker, Lindsey Baker, Heather Guess, Kimberly Guess, and three great nieces and nephews.
Becky’s funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church in Sandy, UT on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 am. A rosary service will precede mass at 10:30 am at the same location and a reception will follow.
