Raymond Matthews Gaumond

December 11, 1961 — May 11, 2020

Raymond Matthews Gaumond (58) passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2020, in West Jordan, Utah.
Ray was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on December 11, 1961, to Gerard Joseph Gaumond and Patricia Kadleck Gaumond. He grew up in Salt Lake City with his three brothers and two sisters. He enjoyed camping and fishing at Deer Creek Reservoir. Growing up in a small house with many siblings, he decided to make his own room by digging out the basement, one bucket at a time.
He hated being late to anything. He was a hard worker and was always willing to help his family, neighbors, friends and co-workers. Even though Ray struggled with his health, he never complained and refused to let that stop him from doing what he loved to do. Ray enjoyed gardening, visiting with neighbors, playing with his adopted grandkids from next door, going for car rides, having barbecues and roasting marshmallows, building and remodeling, doing puzzles, playing games on his Kindle, and watching movies and endless reruns of NCIS. Christmas was his favorite holiday. He would dress up as Santa and entertain at Christmas parties. Ray would spend countless hours decorating the house and yard and hanging up Christmas lights. His neighborhood in Tooele will be a little dimmer at Christmas.
Ray worked as a custodian for many years at Salt Lake Community College and at various elementary schools in the Salt Lake City School District, most recently at West High School. He loved kids and kids loved him. Everywhere he went somebody would recognize their favorite custodian, “Mr. Ray.”
Ray was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He met his wife on a blind date in 1990, and they were married and sealed in the Jordan River Utah Temple on June 15, 1991. Ray loved his family and was proud to share their accomplishments with everyone he knew.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda, his son, Matthew, and his daughter, Marissa, siblings Joseph (Dottie), Edmond (Jennifer), Susan Green (Larry), Mike (Deanna) and Nancy (Richard) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
