Raymond Anderton

On September 8, 2021, Raymond E Anderton, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, joined his wife on the other side of the veil, following after her the way he did in life. He was born August 18, 1931 in Birmingham, England to Ernest Anderton and Phyllis Elizabeth Alice Crump Anderton. At 12 years old, he asked his future wife, Brenda, a much older woman of 16, on a date. Later, he followed her to America and married his beloved “Bren” for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on April 30, 1953. They raised 7 children, taking them camping and teaching them a love of the outdoors. A proud citizen of both his birth country and adopted nation, he made a career of aiding the military, first, by serving in the British Army, then, the American Army and finally, working for over 30 years as electrician at Hill Air Force Base. He served in various positions in the LDS Church, including cubmaster and executive secretary and spent many years working in the baptistry with Brenda at both the Jordan River and Draper Temples. He and Brenda always took their grandchildren out to dinner for their birthdays, creating special memories for each grandchild with their grandparents. Ray spent many hours whittling and carving, creating beautiful masterpieces and the odd gnome. He spent many years carving with the Great Salt Lake Woodcarvers Guild, helping them prepare Christmas trees for the Festival of Trees and helping organize their shows. Ray won many prizes for his carvings and missed it when he was unable to carve. Having been restricted to his bed for the last few weeks due to his failing health, Ray happily walked through the veil to see his dear wife, Brenda, his son, Mark, his grandsons, Seth and Colton, his sister, Hazel, and brother-in-law, Dennis, and his parents, Ernest and Phyllis. He will be missed by his daughters, Patsy Rae (Richard “Dick”) Jensen, Kathryn (Jan) Haarbrink, and his sons, Bruce (Karen) Anderton, Mitch (Alma) Anderton, Andrew (Nicole) Anderton and Trevor (Ronda) Anderton, his 19 grandchildren, his 24 great-grandchildren with several more on the way and multiple nieces and nephews. He will be buried in a family graveside service. Love to you all!
Graveside services will be held on September 18, 2021 at 10:00 am with a viewing one hour prior to services at Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary; 10055 S State St, Sandy, Utah, 84070. Services will also be live-streamed via Zoom
