Raquel Ramirez Reyes

November 29, 1957 — August 10, 2022

Raquel Ramirez Reyes passed away peacefully in her home in Texas on August 10, 2022.
Raquel was born November 29, 1957 in El Paso, Texas to Daniel & Olaya Ramirez. She is the third of four children. When Raquel was young, she lived in Mexico where she had a beloved pet goat. When Raquel was seven, her family quite literally came to Utah with the clothes on their backs and a few small suitcases. Raquel came to love “her mountains” in Utah. In later years when visiting Utah, flying over the mountains she would say, “I love these mountains, I love coming home.” Raquel graduated from South High in Salt Lake City in 1977.
Raquel met Jorge Reyes at the Lucero Ward where they started to date after a few years. They loved to go dancing and spend time with friends. After Jorge’s mission, they were married in the Salt Lake temple on July 10, 1981.
Raquel enjoyed living in Houston, Oklahoma City, Pittsburg and finally in San Antonio where she passed away. However, she always considered Utah her “home”.
Raquel loved her family. Her four boys were her pride and joy. She was an amazing cook and always made sure all her boys were well-fed. She loved family gatherings and would stay up late into the night telling stories of her childhood and memories of her sons’ mischief growing up.
Raquel’s hobbies were gardening, walking, and doing arts and crafts. Although, her favorite past-time was spending time with her sons. She loved taking Sunday walks with them in tow.
Raquel loved her Savior. She was always serving in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her motto was, “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord”. She served in many different callings, but particularly loved being in the Primary with the children. When she had grandchildren of her own, she loved spoiling and spending time with them. While living far away, she would stay connected to her grandchildren by looking through photos of them and weekly video calls.
Even in her illness, she remembered that the Lord had given her a great life and would always remind Jorge that they, “have had a good life”.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Olaya Ramirez, and her brother, Pedro. Raquel is survived by her husband, Jorge, children Armando (Aaron), Enrique (Nicole), Tomas (Ingrid), Esteban (Marleyna), and 5 grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Norma (Rick) Cordova, and Olaya (Roger) Gellerson.
The family would like to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and kindness at this time.
