Randy Reed Pace, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, March 8, 2017. Randy was born December 23, 1949 to Reed DeVar Pace and Vera Pace, the oldest of six children.
On June 2, 1972, Randy married the love of his life, Mary Beth Putnam, in the Salt Lake Temple. Randy and Mary Beth were married for 44 years and together raised eight children: Dirk (Sarina) Pace, Eric (Danielle) Pace, Charlene (Stephen) Todd, Britta (John) Nunley, Amanda (Aaron) Bates, Ranna Pace, Seth (Chari) Pace, and Joel Pace. Randy also enjoyed spending time with his 20 grandchildren.
Randy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and faithfully served a mission to Uruguay and Paraguay. After his mission he enjoyed a short trip through South America before returning home. He arrived home a little earlier than planned, surprising his family and loved ones. During his life he served in many other callings in the church, including as his ward’s Bishop. He loved his time serving and spent a great deal of his calling spending time with the youth. He remarked frequently how that was the part of the calling that brought him the most joy. He had the privilege of serving as Bishop while some of his children were in the youth and took every opportunity to go on youth outings and campouts with them.
Computers were a big part of Randy’s life. As a computer programmer, there were many computers in various states of repair in his home. He enjoyed upgrading them himself and working on them whenever he could. Thanks to his love of his profession, there was little need to argue over computer time with the children, as there were usually enough to be used by multiple people.
Randy was a very active man, loving to play basketball and referee soccer. He enjoyed participating in sports, but enjoyed sharing them with his children even more. Over the years, he coached his children’s recreation soccer teams as well. Randy was very fair, and his focus was on making sure everyone had a good time.
Randy loved to laugh, and enjoyed seeing those around him laughing. There were many family nights filled with laughter and jokes in his home. He truly believed that learning should be fun and loved to take a moment to be silly and bring a fun spin to many of the lessons he taught. Until the very end, he made jokes and told puns to bring laughter and joy to those around him.
Randy was preceded in death by his parents. His memory lives on through his siblings: Ross (Ramona) Pace, Margie (Kenny) Smith, Kelly (Sandra) Pace, Kent (Denise) Pace, and Mike (Lil) Pace.
