Ramona Hunsaker Jones, beloved by all, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 95. She was the fifth of eight children born to Meda Abel and Don Hunsaker. She is survived by her brother, Glen Hunsaker; her second husband, Dayle Mathews; and her seven children: Brian Jones, Karen Gilliland, Deanne Gubler, Grant Jones, Mary Ellen Haywood, Kathleen Beck, and Dennis Jones. Her legacy lives on through her 37 grandchildren, 120 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren (and counting), all of whom adored her deeply.
Ramona met her high school sweetheart, Karl G. Jones, when she was a junior in high school. They married on August 12, 1948, in the Logan Temple and went on to share 70 beautiful years of marriage. Their love and devotion to one another set an enduring example for their family. Together, they raised their seven children and built a life filled with joy, service, and cherished memories.
A devoted member of her faith, Ramona found fulfillment in serving others. She and Karl completed eight full-time missions together and faithfully accepted numerous church callings, from teaching Primary to leading in the Relief Society. Ramona gave pure example of putting others before self. One of her greatest joys was serving in the Jordan River Temple, where she felt a deep sense of peace and purpose.
Ramona embraced her role as a homemaker with love and pride. As she wrote in her life history: “My main job and the job I always wanted to have was that of being a homemaker. I always wanted to be a wife, mother, and grandmother. My family is everything to me.” She poured her heart into creating a warm and loving home where her family could thrive.
Her talents and hobbies brought beauty into the world. She was an accomplished artist who loved oil painting landscapes, sculpting, and quilting. Each of her creations reflected her creativity and attention to detail, and her works continue to be treasured by those fortunate enough to receive them.
Ramona’s final years with Karl were marked by profound love and care as she tenderly looked after him during his battle with dementia, until his passing on October 19, 2018. Their unwavering bond through life's challenges was an inspiration to all who knew them.
After Karl's passing, Ramona found a new chapter of joy and companionship. In a story straight out of a movie, she developed a heartwarming romance with her neighbor, Dayle Mathews, while living at Legacy. They fell deeply in love and were married on February 26, 2022. Their time together was short but filled with happiness, proving that love knows no age or timeline.
The family of Ramona extends heartfelt gratitude to her hospice caretakers, especially Marcia, Rose, and Rachel. Their compassion, kindness, and dedicated care brought comfort and peace to Ramona and our family. We are forever grateful for the love and dignity they provided.
Ramona’s life was a testament to faith, family, and service. She touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and enduring love. She continually served all and was in turn loved by all. Her family finds comfort in the knowledge that her remarkable legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
She will be profoundly missed, but her influence will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
As per her request, there will be no funeral - only a brief, gravesite service, held at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 E 7800 S, Salt Lake City at 1:00pm on January 15th.
