Rama Lrene Ackerman

February 5, 1927 — April 10, 2020

Devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, Rama lrene Kimbrough Ackerman passed away on April 10, 2020 peacefully in her South Salt Lake City home incident to age. At the time of her passing she was 93 years old. She was born on February 5, 1927 to Louis Raven Kimbrough and Elizabeth Pearl Dillenbeck in Boise, ldaho. She married the love of her life, Bill Ackerman and they spent 63 wonderful years together.
After graduating from Castleford High School she attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. While attending college, she met her future husband through his sister Gladys. They were married shortly after on August 16, 1946 then later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on March 5, 1954. She loved her husband except when he was unshaven. She devotedly served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including, Stake Sunday School Secretary, Young Women’s Secretary, Humanitarian Mission with her husband on Welfare Square and Compassionate Service Leader for the Southgate Ward.
She loved to travel, visiting many places in the United States. She traveled with her Mother visiting England, Spain, France, Germany and ltaly. Throughout all her travel destinations, her favorite was her hometown in Idaho. She loved long car rides especially through Parley’s and Provo Canyons and going to Spring Chicken lnn in Wanship. She also enjoyed camping in Coalville in their 5th wheel with Joan, Mark and Grandpa Art. Rama assisted Bill in his Scout Master Calling for many years, and considered all of the boys as her own. Monthly, the “Lee Ward Dinner Group” held parties, vacations and get togethers which she loved being a part of for over 30 years.
Rama disliked cooking as her family was being raised. However, after raising 6 children she became a very accomplished chef. Her specialties included roast beef and potatoes, tapioca pudding, fudge, deviled eggs and peanut brittle with her friend LaNola. She thoroughly enjoyed canning tomatoes and chili sauce, and her speciality, burnt toast.
Rama was an avid Jazz fan for years, holding season tickets with her husband. Later in life a highlight of her day was to watch a Jazz game on television at home with her daughter June.
Her favorite television shows were Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and any show that included Steve Harvey.
Earlier in life she worked at First Security State Bank and various title companies.
She is survived by her children, Joan (Steve) Stout, June (Larry) Wells, Mark (Cheryl) Ackerman, Wayne (Corrinne) Ackerman, Jeanette Lopez, 16 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 1 great, great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Bill Ackerman, son Bill R. Ackerman, grandson Brady Lee Parkin, and brother Robert Kimbrough.
Due to the safety concerns of the Coronavirus outbreak, Rama will be laid to rest at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery on Monday, April 13, 2020 at 11:30 AM. Her family extends their love and thanks to her daughter June Wells for taking wonderful care of our Mom the past 11 years. The family also appreciates the loving care given by the Valeo Hospice nurses, especially Nurse Debi.
