Ralph Frank Allen

May 30, 1927 — March 31, 2021

Ralph Frank Allen, “my sweet Dad” passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2021 at age 93. Born May 30, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frank Rhodes Allen and Delavon Childs Allen. Married Audrey Frances McNamara July 26, 1947.
My Dad joined the U.S. Navy September 22, 1944 and completed boot camp in San Diego, California. He served on the USS Bremerton for most of his time in the Navy, and then transferred to the “Sea Ray” a troop transport ship, when they were notified of Germany’s surrender, and the bombing of Japan with the atom bombs. Their destination was Manila on the south part of Luzon in the Philippines. There was about 20 men transferred to a smaller ship in Manila and spent nearly 12 hours to get to Subic Bay, about 50 miles north of Manila. They assigned 10 men to a boat pool. They learned to run and land the three types of landing crafts that were meant to be used in the Japanese invasion, which never happened. Ralph was Honorably Discharged on July 2, 1946 with the rank of Seaman First Class. My Dad loved to build things. When he wasn’t building something, he was fixing or repurposing something. He built two campers that we went camping in a lot, and later Ralph and Mike and their friends helped build our cabin. He was always going, going, going. He loved gardening and growing his tomatoes, grapes and squash. He loved making knives. He loved showing anyone what he had created, and then he would let them pick one to have. He gave away more than he sold. Dad retired from the United States Postal Service on November 19, 1996 after 27 years, 6 months, and 3 days of service. He loved western movies, western shows, and western books. He loved anything to do with the Civil War. His favorite food was ham and chicken, burgers, and Chinese food. But most of all he loved ice cream!
Ralph is survived by his daughter, Susan K. (Gleave) Greene, Cindy (Michael) Allen, 7 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 4 great, great, grandchildren. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, 1 brother, wife Audrey, 2nd wife Barbara, son Ralph Jr, son Michael. Dad loved his family dearly. He would do anything for anyone. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and neighbors. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the cancer society of your choice.
