Ralph Swift Child, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother, passed away on February 4th, 2013. Born the 8th child of Asa and Maud Child, Ralph was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was an extremely hard worker and loved learning and helping from a young age. He graduated from South High School and the University of Utah. Ralph was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Central Atlantic States. After his mission, he served in the United States Army.
Ralph married his sweetheart, Phyllis Rae Funk, on June 15th, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they are the devoted parents of 4 children. Ralph’s family was his life. Ralph was a Justice of the Peace in Holladay, Utah for many years. He taught accounting at Salt Lake Community College. Ralph loved teaching and was always doing whatever he could to help his students succeed. Over the years, his students recognized him almost everywhere he went, always stopping to visit with their friend “Ralph.”
Ralph loved serving everyone and was constantly busy running errands and making friends along his way. He enjoyed serving in his many church callings and later as a Temple ordinance worker. He had an unshakable faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. Ralph always had a happy attitude, a big smile, and loved to laugh!
