Ralph "Blair" Evans

May 22, 1947 — March 23, 2025

St George

St. George, UT – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Blair Evans, who passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Blair was born to Ralph William and Emeline Blair Evans on May 22, 1947, their long-awaited son of promise, as foretold in his mother’s patriarchal blessing. True to her faith, at the age of 47, Emma confidently told her doctor she would return—and he would deliver her son.

A man of unwavering dedication, Blair answered the call to serve his country. Following his graduation from South High School, he and his closest friends volunteered to fight in the Vietnam War. Determined to stand alongside his peers, Blair traveled to Hill Air Force Base and personally petitioned the general for permission to serve, overcoming a medical deferment. His commitment to duty and selfless service defined his character.

Upon returning home, Blair married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia Gallegos, and together they built a loving family, raising three children. He was a devoted father who shared his love for the outdoors with his family. Some of their fondest memories were spent camping in the Uinta Mountains and traveling in their motorhome, creating cherished adventures filled with laughter and connection.

Blair was a man of many talents and interests. He worked as a disc jockey, was a Utah state delegate for the Republican Party, and was an accomplished jewelry maker. An avid racquetball player and loyal college football fan, he found joy in both competition and camaraderie.

Blair’s life was defined by service. He joined the Salt Lake City Fire Department, dedicating himself to protecting his fellow citizens. In 1975, he graduated from Weber State University’s first Paramedic Class, making him part of the pioneering group of paramedics in Utah. With skill and compassion, he saved countless lives and provided critical care during moments of crisis.

Later, Blair extended his public service by joining the Utah Department of Corrections, where he worked for over 30 years, ultimately serving as Director of Facilities. His leadership, integrity, and dedication to safety left a lasting impact on the department. He retired with honor in May 1999, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment.

Blair is survived by his loving family: his sister Annette Tagg (Burton); daughter Tiffany; son Jamie; grandson Chandler (Alexis); granddaughters Kayla and Morgan; and his cherished great-granddaughters, Meadow and Willow. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is joyfully reunited with those who preceded him in death: his parents, his sisters Jean (Rocco) Bills and Lueen (John) Gardner, and his beloved middle son, Sean, whose memory he carried in his heart.

Blair’s life was one of courage, compassion, and devotion—to his country, his fellow citizens, and, above all, his family. His legacy of service and love will forever inspire those who knew him.
