Phyllis Ruth Haines

March 12, 1937 — January 22, 2020

Phyllis Ruth Haines passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 22, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah due to complications from COPD. She was 82 years old.
Phyllis was born on March 12, 1937 in Heron Lake, Minnesota to her parents Marvin and Helen Newcomer. She married Vernon Leroy Haines on September 4, 1954. They moved to Seattle, Washington where Vernon was stationed in the US Army. They had 4 children; David, Gloria, Patricia, and Larry. They later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.
Phyllis was a very loving and caring person. If you were family or not, she was always called mom or grandma. She would take any and every one under her wing. She loved everyone; if you ever needed to talk, she was there. She loved camping and fishing, if it involved staying overnight, even better. Phyllis always loved having get-togethers and spending time with her family; her biggest joy was seeing everyone. She will truly be missed by everyone that knew her. She always loved her dogs, even ones that were dropped off at her house.
She is survived by her daughters Gloria (Jerry) Butcher of West Jordan and Patricia (Kelly) Fry of Taylorsville; son Larry (Jaime) Haines of Kearns, daughter-in-law Linda Summers Haines, sister Judy (Wally) Pederson, 18 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Vernon, parents Marvin and Helen Newcomer, brother James Newcomer, son David Haines, daughter-in-law Becky Haines, and grandsons Christopher and Danny Haines.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and staff at Intermountain Medical Center: Ellie, Dani, Jessie, Kamila, and Danny.
