Phillip Alma Lord

Phillip Alma Lord, 86, died on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at his home in Cottonwood Heights. Phil was born on April 26, 1935, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Walter David and Blanche Rebecca Stark Lord.
Phil was a man of many talents. He was an outdoorsman from beginning to end. He loved fishing, camping, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, snow skiing, and water skiing. When Phil was 18, he attended a dance, and fell in love with ballroom dancing. He took dance instruction at Tony de Carlo dance studios. Phil’s favorites were the west coast swing, New York hustle, night club, two-step, and blues dancing. Phil was an avid track and field enthusiast, and participated in throwing events in the Utah Summer Games, where he won many medals and trophies over the years. He loved pitching in fastpitch softball games and playing in tournaments for over 40 years. He also had a great passion for physical fitness and bodybuilding.
Phil designed and built the home where his children were happily raised and was an excellent mechanic and handyman. He was a very intelligent man who had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Phil enjoyed learning mathematics, astronomy, geology, and biology, among many other interests, and loved sharing his knowledge with others.
Phil joined the National Guard after high school, serving for six years, where he won his company’s physical fitness and shooting contests. He later joined the Army reserves for two years, and received awards for his ability as a marksman. He received a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Utah. He owned and operated a surveying business for many years.
Phil will be remembered for his willingness to help others, and the sharing of his many talents with them. He passed on his work ethic and love of learning to his four children.
His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his children, Todd Lord (Jill), Cami Ramirez (Joseph), Curtis Lord (Kim), Chad Lord (Heather), his 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his brother James Lord, sister Dianne Shaw, ex-wife Marjorie Lord, ex-wife Roxie Olson, and best friend Roberta Webb.
The family would like to thank Elevation Hospice for their thoughtful service. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at an open house event on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 3:30 to 6:00. At the Wasatch 5th Ward on 8169 Top of the World Dr, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to cancer research.
