Philip John Montoya

October 5, 1929 — August 12, 2018

Philip John Montoya was born to Adolph Montoya and Catalina Lujan on October 5, 1929 in Bingham Canyon, UT. Philip was born with a baseball mitt in one hand and a model train in the other. He was the 5th of 6 children. With many brothers, Philip honed his skills at football, basketball and baseball, excelling most as baseball player where his curve ball was feared in the entire SL valley while playing for Bingham High School. Phillip would later play Triple A baseball as well as for the Army during the Korean war while stationed in England.
After graduating from Bingham High School, he continued his full-time employment at Kennecott Copper. Philip had many positions during his near 40 year employment at Kennecott copper, his prized job was foreman of the locomotive shop, a position he took in 1969. Phillip loved trains and surrounded himself with pictures, calendars models of trains. If he was not at work, helping friends or family, you could find him passionately rooting for the Jazz, Utes or the Bears.
In 1954 he Married Juanita Vance. They had a Son, Stephen. Philip and Juanita later divorced. Phillip Married Marilyn Warnock in 1960. They had four children, Tiger (his unapologetic fave), Bear, lobo and Chickenhawk, as Phillip called them, known to all else as Linda, Bill, John and Valita. Phillip and Marilyn raised their family in Sandy on Greenwood dr. In 1992, Marilyn and Phillip Divorced.
Phillips corny jokes were tolerated by family, friends and care takers. The sound of silence without those jokes has been missed dearly in the few hours since his passing. His kind heart, generous spirit is a loss to loved ones and to the world in general.
Phillip was joyfully greeted On Sunday August 12th by his parents, 2 brothers, one sister, one Tiger, and a granddaughter. Early reports are that he is pitching for the Angels and Fixing locomotives for celestial rails company all the while telling corny jokes that he forgets the punchlines too. We all miss you Phillip, Pop, Brother, Friend.
