Peggy Smith Carlston

Our talented, feisty, mischievous, and beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister, Peggy Smith Carlston, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2021, in her home due to cancer. Born on September 14, 1959, in Cedar City, Utah, Peggy grew up in Overton, Nevada, where she attended elementary through high school as a Moapa Valley Pirate, excelling in music and dance and where she developed a love for the arts and sewing. She served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ontario, Canada, and later attended Southern Utah University. She married Ron Dean Carlston on February 21, 1985, was sealed to him in the Salt Lake Temple on February 22, 1986, and, together, they raised three children. Peggy enjoyed playing the piano, sewing costumes, and watching any productions that made her laugh. She was a humble lady who happily served as an unofficial foster parent to two young teenagers for several years and adopted many dogs, brought home by her children, throughout her lifetime.
Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Smith, her mother, Elva Smith, and her father- and mother-in-law, Leon and Nancy Carlston. She is survived by her husband, Ron, her daughter, Kerrie (and Tom) Retzloff, two grandchildren, Luna and Anakin Retzloff, a son, Kyle, and another daughter, Kirsta, as well as her father, Val Smith, brothers Jerry (and Gina) Smith, Roy (and Julie) Smith, Dan Smith, and Glen (and Jeri) Smith, and a sister, Judy (and Doug) Merrill.
A small, celebration of life will be held in Peggy’s honor, because she never enjoyed the spotlight. Peggy’s personality and presence will be greatly missed, and her memory cherished by many who knew her.
