Peggy Elaine Mcnair Haycock

February 2, 1939 — March 11, 2020

Peggy Elaine McNair Haycock returned home to her Father in Heaven on March 11, 2020 in Salt Lake City Utah. She was born February 2, 1939 in Salt Lake City to Thomas Irvine McNair and Violet Elaine Thompson. Peggy attended Olympus High School and while going there met her eternal sweetheart Richard Obed Haycock.  Peggy and Dick were married on November 29, 1955.
She attended Bryman school where she earned her certification as a medical assistant. She enjoyed many years of service in the medical field working for a few different doctors and working at St. Mark’s Hospital. She took opportunities to further expand her education in the radiology field. She was very loved by those she helped and worked with and earned the affectionate nickname “Doc-Mom”.  In a time where breastfeeding wasn’t always the most popular choice, Peggy enjoyed serving as the chapter president in the La Leche League where she helped educate others and made many friends.
Peggy’s greatest joy in life came from being a wife, mother, and grandmother. Peggy and Dick believed it was important to create good memories for their family and did so by taking their 8 children on many family vacations. They continued the tradition of fond memories for their grandchildren by doing Christmas parties -always complete with a pinata loaded with candy and money-, Easter egg hunts, and yearly trips to Lake Powell. For a couple of those Lake Powell trips Peggy set up a bead store where the kids could buy prizes with beads earned for good behavior. She was always encouraging her family to be their best.  She had the ability to be assertive yet warm and loving. Whether they were near or far she loved all her children unconditionally and constantly thought of them, worried for them, and prayed for them.  She loved spending time with her husband and traveling the world with him and they enjoyed quality time spent in their second home in St. George. Peggy’s life was enriched with many lifelong friends who meant so much to her.
Though she would disagree, Peggy was very artistically talented.  It wasn’t until about 6 years ago that a beautiful painting appeared on the wall in her home. Upon her family’s inquisition, it was discovered that Peggy was the artist. Over the years she used these talents to make several wedding dresses for her daughters-in-law, and whenever her health allowed it, she crocheted blessing gowns and suits for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Upon meeting Peggy, you would first notice her calm, sweet voice and demeanor, but don’t let it fool you!  She was strong, and she was a fighter. Peggy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011 and after enduring chemotherapy and other treatments for years she kicked cancer to the curb! Her husband took great care of her during this time and their relationship grew stronger than ever.  She was then able to return the favor and help him fight pancreatic cancer. She stuck by his side and they fought together until the very end of his battle in 2015. After 60 years of marriage it was very difficult for her to be parted with him. Her family takes comfort knowing that there is a sweet reunion happening between them right now.
Peggy had a firm testimony in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She cherished the time she spent with her husband as an ordinance worker in the LDS Salt Lake Temple.
Peggy is survived by Richard (Beverly), Sharyn Warr, Susan (Craig) Bruderer, Linda Steele, Carl, Craig (Jennifer), Josh (Nicholle), brother James Roy Lee Jr. and 33 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Obed Haycock, son Kent Thomas Haycock, daughter in law Megan (Rounds) Haycock, brother Thomas Irvine McNair Jr., and her parents Thomas Irvine McNair and Violet Elaine Thompson.
Anyone who knew Peggy knew she had a love for angels. She enjoyed reading about them, decorating with them, and her family often gifted her with angel figurines and jewelry. Of all the angels she read about and told her family about, her family now knows they have the most beautiful one of all watching over them.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Aspen Ridge Rehabilitation Center and St. Mark’s Hospital for the love and care they administered to her.
