On August 7, 2017 at 1:25 AM our sweet fireball unexpectedly went home to be with our Heavenly Father. Waiting for her with open arms, was the love of her life and her children.
Pauline believed in the spirit of community and taught her children the importance of helping others. Her calling to community services began with the realization that there were people that did not have basic necessities to live, such as food, shelter and clothing. She dedicated her life to helping others. She wholeheartedly served the less fortunate while working at Salt Lake Community Action Program for 14 years. One of her greatest professional accomplishments was being appointed as the Administrative Assistant of Minority Community Affairs in the Salt Lake City Mayor’s office with Mayor Deedee Corradini (deceased).
Pauline was a great advocate for the Hispanic community, serving on the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She was recognized for her years of service being awarded the “Rey Flores” award and the “Outstanding Hispanic Woman of the Year” award. She was currently a board member for the Utah Non Profit Housing group.
Pauline loved and cherished her entire family. She believed that it was fundamental for parents to have open communication with their children and to be involved in all of their activities, including school, sports, friends, and anything that interested them. She lived this belief to the fullest by supporting and attending all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. Pauline’s children could do no wrong in her eyes and if anyone said any different she was quick to put them in their place. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by family and being call Nana. Pauline will be greatly missed.
She is survived by daughter Christy (Chris) Serrano, son Henry Todd (Chris) Valdez, sisters Delores (Mike) Velasquez of Moore, OK. and Nancy (John) Wall, special nephews Brandon, Jeremy, and Cameron, and her sweet Apple Strudel Kalani Fuiava. Grandchildren Michael Jr. Alexis, Lauren, Chris Jr., Nick, Charlie, Alexis, Jessica, Celeste, Christina, Alexis, Michael, Kayla, Aaron, Tosh, Olivia, Porfie, Tito, and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry (the Great) (Hank) Valdez, son Paul, daughter Angel Nicole Valdez, father John Paul, mother Molly Pacheco, mother-in-law Lita Andrew and Nephew Dustin Vallejos.
