Patrick Trujillo

October 24, 1932 — January 28, 2021

Patrick Trujillo, born October 24, 1932 Olathe Colorado, passed peacefully into Heaven January 28, 2021 West Jordan Utah. He was born and raised on a modest farm in Olathe Colorado and spent his younger years in Olathe and surrounding Ouray and Montrose areas. He attended Stone School and Olathe High. He liked to be certain that we knew he “walked to school uphill both ways, in the snow”. Right out of high school he spent a little over a year in Ouray Colorado, working at the Idarado mine with his brothers until he was drafted. He served honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and when Sergeant Trujillo was discharged he moved to Utah to further his education and he briefly attended the University Of Utah.
In 1956 he met his “Lovey” Joan Howell on a blind date and soon they eloped to Las Vegas to be married. Together they have celebrated 64 years in marriage and created a family of 7 children and their spouses, 14 grandchildren and their spouses, 16 great grandchildren and their spouses and a great-great grandson. He treasured being a husband, a father and a grandfather. Together with his “Lovey” they developed a love for traveling and this became an important part of their life together, taking their first Ocean Cruise “Ship to Shore in ‘74” and continuing to travel to many parts of the world both near and far ever since. Together with Joan they always participated in an active social life. He participated in the local Little League activities with his sons and as a coach, or a manager, he guided youth and supported the league for years. He and Joan hosted many baseball celebrations at their home, and within the league community they developed lifelong friendships from that experience and together they all became members of the Elks Lodge. They also loved to play Pinochle. They played with the same group of friends for 35 years. They continued an active social life with friends who also enjoyed the card game, right up to his last few months.
His favorite thing in life was gathering together his family, both for simple dinners or for grand family vacations. He had a great love of camping, fishing and boating. Flaming Gorge was one of his favorite places and our family shared many happy memories there. He also loved returning to Colorado for family reunions. The last reunion that he was able to attend there had in attendance 5 generations and over 100 family members. He was the last surviving sibling of the family of 9 brothers and sisters. He faithfully prayed the Rosary each night. He was a lifetime Union Ironworker and became a Steel Erection Contractor founding Steel Deck Erectors, Inc. in 1971 and worked that company supported by his wife, his three sons and son in law Kris and his daughter Sheron. It is widely recognized that he was a great influence in the local Ironworking Industry. Within Ironworkers Local 27 he helped inspire many men from Apprentice into Journeyman. The Salt Lake Valley as well as many surrounding states show signs of his accomplishments in all directions. He was appointed as the President of the Utah Steel Erectors and Reinforcing Bar Association from 1990-1998.
He was always a generous man, both with resources and his time. He was always a kind and non-judgmental man. He set a great example as a leader. He was honest and loyal and supportive. He would give anyone a leg up and then let you excel as you are. He loved the change of season into Autumn, and all that goes with it. Watching Professional Football an avid Broncos fan, a favorite saying being “If God is not a Bronco’s Fan then why are sunsets orange”? Celebrating his birthday with family watching the 1957 version
of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, laughing at Ichabod Crane until tears streamed down his face. He had a great sense of humor and he loved to tell a joke. He loved singing and was known for bursting out in song whenever the desire struck. We will miss him dearly and love him always.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan, His Daughter Patricia Calver (John), Son Perry Trujillo (Jan), Son Steven Trujillo, Daughter Sheron Walker, Daughter Colleen Einerson (Kris), Daughter Robin Carpenter (Todd), Grandchildren; Shane Trujillo (Shannon Dawn), Seneca Shaw, Shannon Allen (Curtis) Jared Trujillo, Autumn Trujillo, Emily Lindmar (Jesse), Erik Einerson, Angela Trujillo (Mitchell), Cori Mayhew (Sean), Dylan Trujillo, Zackary Munger (Ashley), Kristopher Einerson (Paige), Cami Einerson (Mickey), Haley Munger (Scott) also 16 great grandchildren and spouses and 1 great-great grandchild.
